Two dinoflagellate planktons, Bobby Jo and Flerble, drift in the ancient Permian seas wondering about their evolutionary provenance, present, and purpose in the universe. They must be meant for something greater than this! But first, the transpiration of deep time buries them in the watery depths, under sedimented layers of expired life, eventually to be transformed into … crude oil.
